Cannot access Gmail after upgrading to Windows 8.1.

Hello,
I recently upgraded to windows 8.1 pro edition, which includes internet explorer 11.
I still can't access my gmail account, I've tried the 'fixes' that I've seen in the community, but the only way I can get gmail to load in the 'desktop' version is to select
the 'html' version.
Does anyone have any idea's on what else I can try ?
