Can't upload to SharePoint 2007 from Windows 8 IE 10 (desktop)

Internet Explorer version:  10.0.9200.16466
Update versions:  10.0.1 (KB2761465)
SharePoint Server 2007 (company hosted)

I'm running Windows 8 (desktop) as installed on a new touchscreen laptop, and have tried this using both Internet Explorer 10, and FireFox 17.0.1 with the same result.  I also have Microsoft Office 2010 (Home and student).

When attempting to upload files via VPN to my corporate SharePoint website, after selecting the file for upload, the button does nothing (it's a 'no-op').  I can download files from SharePoint with no problems.

Any assistance appreciated - I've searched on-line for forum articles, but have not found anything helpful.  I'm wondering if there's a setting that needs to be set on the SharePoint Server side(?)   Thanks in advance.
