Assign Shortcut Keys to Symbols in Excel
IN Word, one can assign one's own Shortcut Keys to Symbols (Insert Tab) which makes the Symbol Table easier to use. Is there an add-in or something similar for Excel which allows the same thing? Writing proper English (The King's English) becomes difficult
due to the lack of keys on the jeyboard. The minus key for example is actually a Hyphen-Minus which is neither a proper Hyphen nor a proper Minus Sign. Graphemes such as "ae" and "ou" combined into a single letter are also often used in the King's English.
Each time one needs such a character, one has to access the symbol window (Character Map is not to be advised and takes the same amount of work anyway). Simple shortcuts as in Word would be most useful.

For those characters that can be created with a ALT+sequence you can use just that keyboard sequence. For those that require the nnnn ALT-x sequence, you will have to use the character map.
If you don't already know which characters are createable with ALT+sequence see the various tables in
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/excel-help/insert-ascii-or-unicode-latin-based-symbols-and-characters-HA010167539.aspx
in particular the tables
Common diacritical character codes
Common ligature character codes
I cannot think of any way to use a macro to do what you want because Excel disables macros as soon as it enters Edit mode.
