A problem with a data consistency check in an Excel spreadsheet
I am treasurer of a club and use an Excel spreadsheet for my accounts.
Row 6 is the first to contain transaction data.
Columns C to K are the nominal accounts and L is the transaction total. Column M is the cheque number, if any. Columns N to P are my bank and cash accounts. Columns S to U are a set of data consistency checks for that row.
On any row (eg row 105) column V holds the running total of nominal accounts as =SUM(C$6:K105) and W the running total of transaction totals as =SUM(L$6:L105). Column X checks that they are equal by =IF(V105=W105," ","Clang!")
This has worked perfectly until now, when the running totals in columns W and V have just dropped below 1000.01. Now the test =IF(V105=W105," ","Clang!") returns "Clang" even though V105 and W105 are equal. I have played around with it and the error definitely
occurs when the totals for V and W are equal but fall below 1000.01.
Can anyone tell me why please? I could send a copy of the worksheet if it would help.

I's probably a rounding error.
Try using
=ROUND(SUM(C$6:K105),2)
and
=ROUND(SUM(L$6:L105),2)
